Biography

Rodney Northey is a specialist in environmental law known for his passionate advocacy, with major clients including proponents, municipalities and Aboriginal governments. A member of Gowling WLG’s Environmental Law Group, Mr. Northey is in his 28th year of private practice focused on environmental, land use, energy and regulatory approvals.  

From August 2016 to April 2017, Mr. Northey was a member of an expert panel appointed by the Federal Minister of Environment and Climate Change to carry out a Canada-wide consultation and review of Canada’s environmental assessment process. Mr. Northey was also a member of the 2004 Ontario task force leading to the development of the Province's two-million-acre greenbelt, as well as a member of an executive panel to advise the then-Minister of the Environment on environmental assessment reform for projects in the green energy, transit, and waste sectors (2004–2006).  He is also the author of two books on federal environmental law and several published articles on environmental law and policy.  

Mr. Northey’s familiarity with environmental law and wealth of experience advocating environmental policy & science will greatly contribute to the Aqua Forum Board.

Mr. Northey lives in Toronto with his spouse, Lori Stoltz, and daughter, Claudia.
